| John,
I tested your sliders. The slider did its job despite speed. With out the
slider it would have been a total loss.

110mph Motorcycle Crash
What's the fastest you've ever gone in a car? Ever jump out?
First of all I am all right, only a minor ankle twist and sprained wrist. I
have had my Triumph Sprint RS for little over two years now and have put
23,000 crash free miles on it, not counting a parking lot drop. Anyway I
take it to the track quite a bit. I usually go to Second Creek which is
north east of Denver CO, out by the airport. Several of us from the mountain
forum frequent this track.
This is a aerial photo of Second Creek and we were running it clock wise.
I was on my fourth lap coming down the main strait. On the previous laps I
was getting on the front binders right about point 1 and am just about
topped out in 3 gear which is 110mph. This time around when I touched the
front brakes my front wheel locked and I hit the deck on my right side all
in the same instant. Then it was ground sky ground sky, when I finally
stopped and jumped up I think I was at point 2. The bike was at 3 with its
throttle pinned. Spectators came over made sure I was OK, hit the kill
switch on my bike, picked up the pieces and walked it off the track. Like I
said before my only injuries were a twisted ankle and sprained wrist but I
didn't realize this until I was walking around the pits looking over my
damaged bike.
I think the bike faired well for as fast as it was going when it hit the
pavement. The front fairing is in many pieces, some how the headlight
survived (and no you are not required to tape up the lights at this track, I
do unplug mine though). The frame slider and Two Brothers pipe took the
brunt of the damage and saved the tank and rear plastic. When the bike hit
the edge of the track it did flip onto the other side, so the left side has
some minor scraping. The left side clip-on is bent and explains why the
throttle was stuck pinned. All of the foot pegs are broken including
passenger. The brake lever and reservoir are broken and amazingly only one
blinker. The rear brake lever, shift lever and shift linkage are bent. I
think that's it but I have not inspected the front brakes for mechanical
problems yet. More likely I panicked and grabbed the front brake too hard
even though I only remember just touching it. It all happened incredibly
fast.
Here is my new helmet, and when I say new I mean hours. I have had a
Nolan helmet for a the last few years and it has been a great for all the
sport touring I have done, but not ideal for playing at the track. Well I
decided to stop by the local bike shop, The Parts Place and pick up quality
helmet. They just started carrying Suomy at internet competitive prices and
since I just got a new job I figured it would be a wise investment. The
investment lasted eight minutes on my head be for I drilled it into the
ground at over 100mph.
The jacket is a Hein Gericke Arizona. The pants are Teknic with hip armor
and hard GP style knee armor. I was also wearing a Joe Rocket back
protector, Spidi armored gloves and Prexport boots. I think the jacket and
gloves are done, the leather left on the shoulder and back of the jacket are
quite thin now, not to mention the hole.
My road rash is killing me!
